The lectures for our “Certified Brewmaster Course”, which has been running since January, are now being conducted via video conference with our learning-management system. This is one of the immediate measures with which VLB is reacting to the current development in the COVID-19 crisis.

According to a decree by the Berlin Senate dated March 14, 2020, no more courses can be held in "other institutions of vocational training" until April 19. This also affects VLB's advanced training courses. While the continuing education (a course held in german) to become a master brewer and maltster has been pursuing the concept of "blended learning" since October 2019, the international Certified Brewmaster Course, which started in January with 37 participants from 28 countries, is purely a classroom event. In response to the crisis situation, the lectures for this course are now being conducted via video conference. “We have changed the timetable and will prefer lectures in the coming weeks. We then want to postpone the internships in our laboratories and in our brewery technical center as a compact presence module”, explains Burghard Meyer, head of the international brewing courses.

"By quickly switching to online learning, we want to enable our participants to continue the course," said VLB Managing Director Dr. Josef Fontaine. "Even if we all currently do not know how this crisis will develop, we are given the chance to still be able to complete our courses this year on a regular basis."
